Wine Barrel Tripel (WestBrook Brewing Co) | TheBEERSgoneBAD #121

15 Mar

Scott brought this beer back from his recent trip to South Carolina. He was super pumped on the fact that it was aged in red wine barrels, so we stuck it in the holding fridge and sat on it. We would look at this beer every week and ask our selves, should we do it….no not this week. Finally after about two months we have decided to pull it out of the fridge and give it a whirl. If we had any idea how amazing this beer was we would have spent that last two months trying to get a couple more bottles. Its not every day you come across a beer that makes you freak out a little.

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Red label. This tripel has been aged for 9 months in oak barrels that were previously used to mature red wine. During the maturation period in our climate controlled barrel room, the beer picks up new flavors from the barrels and their previous contents. The origin of the barrel and the grape varietal it contained both contribute their own nuances.

Never Summer Ale (Boulder Beer Co.) | TheBEERSgoneBAD #120

08 Mar

Never Summer Ale is back. We’ve been waiting for months, but it’s finally time – our big, bold winter seasonal is finally kegged, bottled and ready to ship. Look for it beginning next week on shelves or behind the bar wherever our beer is sold. Deep ruby red in color, assertively hopped and brewed with dark caramel malt, this beer is definitely “for the drinking town with a skiing problem.”

I hope you get a chance to enjoy some on a cold night soon, as it doesn’t get any better than this. Really. It doesn’t. Never Summer Ale won the gold medal for strong ales in the 2004 World Beer Cup. Kudos to our boys in the brewhouse.

Amber Tradition (Brasserie Fischer) | TheBEERSgoneBAD #118

06 Mar

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fischer Tradition is a smooth, complex beer which is fruity and has some flowery undertones. Savour it as an aperatif or with cold meats, cheese and choucroute.

This is one of those beers that falls in the European category of ehhhhh. It’s not bad, but it’s not that good either. Beer Advocate rates this beer around the D+ range and we kinda did too. Please alway try new beers for your self due to that fact that our taste might have been off or the beer was a funky one. Either way this is defiantly a beer, just not one I think we would try again.

Good Chit Pilsner (Rogue Ales) | TheBEERSgoneBAD #117

02 Mar

Let us just start off by saying that we don’t drink a lot of Pilsners on this show. I think aside from this one we have had a hand full before this. With that said please hang in there as we try to open our pallets up to the subtle complexities of this Pilsner.

Good Chit Pilsner is made with Rogue Farm barley that we Floor-Malted in small batches. Floor Malting is an, old fashioned, 8 day process that includes steeping, germination, raking, roasting, bagging and hands on love 24 hours a day. “Chit” refers to the start of the rootlets that emerge from the embryo of the kernel once steeping is complete and germination begins.
