Good Chit Pilsner (Rogue Ales) | TheBEERSgoneBAD #117

02 Mar

Let us just start off by saying that we don’t drink a lot of Pilsners on this show. I think aside from this one we have had a hand full before this. With that said please hang in there as we try to open our pallets up to the subtle complexities of this Pilsner.

Good Chit Pilsner is made with Rogue Farm barley that we Floor-Malted in small batches. Floor Malting is an, old fashioned, 8 day process that includes steeping, germination, raking, roasting, bagging and hands on love 24 hours a day. “Chit” refers to the start of the rootlets that emerge from the embryo of the kernel once steeping is complete and germination begins.

Peroni, Moretti, Efes Beer Review | TheBEERSgoneBAD #97

17 Jan

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTIONd

Peroni:
Bottle & can; Filtered.
Ingredients: Water; Barley Malt; Corn grits; Hop pellets; Hop extract.
The original Italian lager. Peroni is the number one lager brand in Italy and has been for over one and a half centuries. This premium, clear, golden-yellow lager, with 4.7 ABV, is the result of the dedication to brewing of generations of the most qualified braumeisters.
Brewed using the finest spring barley malts and hops, its taste is slightly bitter. A refreshing smooth lager, Peroni is suitable for all occasions.

EFES:
The flagship product, Efes Pilsen (called “Efes Pilsener” in English) gets its unique taste from rice added into the ingredients at brewing stage. The 5.0% ABV beer has been described to have a “tangy malt and hops aroma, rich malt in the mouth, and a bitter-sweet finish that becomes dry and hoppy”, and has won more than a dozen awards through the years, starting with the 1981 Monde Selection Bruxelles Gold Medal; the 1979 Golden Caralious 19th Caralious Gold Medal; the 1973 Sélection Mondiale Paris Gold Medal; and the 1972 12th Annual World Beer and Non-Alcoholic Drinks Selection Gold and Silver Medals for Dark Beer and White Beer, respectively.

MORETTI:
Birra Moretti is a quality beer made in the traditional way. It is the result of a production process that has remained almost unchanged since 1859.
The best raw materials are used to make Birra Moretti, as well as a special blend of high quality hops that gives it a unique taste and fragrance, enhancing its perfectly balanced bitter taste.

It is a bottom fermented beer with a golden colour. This colouring is a result of the type of malt used in brewing.
Its alcohol content is 4.6% alcohol by volume, a percentage that makes it ideal for any time of day. In fact, it is not a strong beer and is therefore perfect for drinking at lunch, at dinner or for evenings out with friends.

Suggested food matches
At a meal, this beer is perfect for enhancing simpler dishes: risottos, pasta dishes, main dishes featuring white meats and fresh cheeses

Mississippi Mud | TheBEERSgoneBAD #8

24 Jul

“Dating back to 18th century England, the custom of blending pale and dark beers has kept the “Black & Tan” a favorite of experienced beer drinkers for centuries.  Our famous recipe combines a robust English Porter with a fine Continental Pilsner, preserving the character of each, while creating the classic taste of the legendary “Black & Tan”.  In true American style, we bring you the best of both beers as they meet in Mississippi Mud.”
