I recently had a craving for bacon. I had previously sworn to give up bacon in exchange for more years on my life, but I am young man and I have found a way to rationalize my acts of contradiction. Bacon was back on the menu. However, if I was to give in to this desire for my favorite crispy breakfast item, I wanted it to be real bacon. The kind of bacon that was a pig only hours before, and I knew just the place. There is a market by my house that advertises competitive prices on cases of Budweiser as well as their 
skills in butchery. It’s worth noting that I live on the edge of civilization in San Diego, so this kind of market is not out of place. I walk in and the market is as I had expected, small, cheap and fairly sparse. However one isle caught me off guard. Where I had expected to find case after case of Miller, Coors and Bud, I found bottle after bottle of craft beer. I stood at the foot of an entire isle dedicated to craft beer. It honestly put BevMo to shame. They have specialty one offs, twenty seven dollar bottles of beer aged in oak wine barrels, and every beer from every brewery you’ve never heard. Beers from the state you live in, to countries half way around the world you vaguely remember from tenth grade geography. And the best part, they have deals. Celeste de Citracado, twelve ounces for two forty nine. buy six twenty two’s and get ten percent off your beers. The place has stickers and signs everywhere urging the support of your local brewery. It was like finding a craft beer oasis. I still cant believe the effort and knowledge that this little hole in the wall market displays on craft beer. It is instances like this that remind me to keep an open mind about going to new places. You never know where your going to find your next best kept beer secret. If I took any thing away from this situation it was to stay on the lookout for new craft spots and to never turn my back on bacon again, it has always aided me in improving the tastiness of my sandwiches and in this instance, led me to my new favorite craft beer destination.
